Palmyra Cove Nature Park (PCNP) is a 250-acre urban oasis along a highly developed area on the Delaware River. Habitats include wetlands, woodlands, meadows, wild creek and river shoreline, and a freshwater Tidal Cove after which the park is named.
The Institute for Earth Observations at Palmyra Cove is a STEM educational initiative for students and teachers that studies Planet Earth. This is a unique and engaging facility where experiences can be shared…and innovative collaboration begins!
PROGRAMS K-12
Palmyra Cove Nature Park/Institute for Earth Observations provides educational programing for the numerous summer camps and summer enrichment programs that are trending in public K-12 schools. PCNP/IEO continues to develop STEM programs that are gaining interest and popularity in our offerings that we identify as “Earth SySTEM.”
The instructional model that we have developed and that guides our programs is called the “Space to Earth and Earth to Space Model” (SEES). This strategy takes a look at our planet from the “top down” and the “bottom up.” Beginning on the ground in our 250-acre nature park, we take measurements and make observations which are then compared through the vantage point of space, using Earth Observing Satellites through our Geoscience and Remote Sensing Laboratory. This very unique approach supports environmental, science, STEM, and career-technical education.
School field trips are booked on a first come, first served basis (requests are handled as School Program Registration Forms are received.)
What Programs are Available?
The K-12 programs are listed below along with the recommended grade levels. The 4-hour programs are actually 3.5 hours of instruction time with a 30-minute lunch break. Some of the programs are similar in content but are adjusted to accommodate various grade levels. The activities have been aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

How to Reserve an Education Program for Your School
Check the calendar to find an available date for the program. When scheduling a program, please keep in mind that a minimum purchase for 10 students is required and the maximum number of students we can accommodate per day for each education program is 80.
